About the  project

The Ulpana encompasses varied art forms, from paintings, sculpting, cinema, music and dance. A part of the establishment's perception is the educational-creative process that the Ulpana's students go through.

At the early stages of the project we went through a process of understanding the overall context of the place. While first arriving at the Ulpana, there was a distinct feeling of separation: the outside areas were dilapidated and there was a lack of sitting areas.
A lack of orientation and inaccessibility to the various areas of the campus were among the first things we noticed.

The backyard that is designated to serve the students as a gathering and creation space was imperfect.

This project focused on redefining the establishment's entrance while achieving interesting experience from street-wise perspective, through the development of the neglected exterior areas and giving a new meaning to the educational experience.

The starting point of the project was to create a plan delivering a functional educational environment intelligently that creates inspirational areas and showcases the student's works with an emphasis on the neglected backyard.

Studying the flow of the campus lead to the development of a new landscape and a design approach that lead us throughout the project. The new design incorporates an impressive entrance by the ramp that leads to all the remote isolated areas and connects them. At the peak point, the ramp leads to the garden roof that is connected with the gallery roof which creates a vantage point overlooking to campus. The lower part of the gallery creates a central intersection leading to a covered outer gallery.

Digging in the existing backyard of the workshops enabled the creation of an external workshop with to objectives: a roof garden on top, and at the bottom, a all-purpose classroom delivering an inspirational atmosphere

Additional functionality that we created in the yard was the building of terraces for creational work and seating spaces for audiences. The new landscape is intended for shows and special events that take place at the school and for additional art classes.
